W
ith thunderous applause, and a standing-only crowd including TV fashion guy Carson Kressley (I only sat down to rest once in a great while; the rest of the crowd was on their feet the entire show), and a punishingly loud sound system, the Spice Girls opened their just shy of two hour show, a whole hour late. Nobody, but people like me who had traveled a long and winding distance to get there seemed to mind. Kressley was instantly recognized by the crowd when he strolled in with his all guy group to see the all girl group by the way; now on to the show...The hits were all there,
and so was a tribute to Vegas sort of set, with "Celebrate" (Kool & the Gang) and the like making people jump and dance in the aisles.

The lighting, effects and staging were stunning. The crew must have outnumbered the cast by dozens. Posh did her solo by looking hot and strutting the "runway" area of the stage, Ginger floored us with "It's Raining Men" (which sounded a bit too perfect (maybe a digital aid or two was used?), and the girls rocked us with "Wanna Be" towards the close...which had Ginger missing a cue, apologizing on mike, which proved at least that vocal was real and true to life!

Bottom Line: 5/5. Can't wait for the inevitable DVD and/or CD version!

THE SPICE GIRLS

In Concert

Prudential Center, Newark New Jersey USA

10 February 2008

There are only a few shows left in this world tour, recently shortened by the "Girls." Don't miss it. They perform about as slick a show, absolutely joyously, as this concert-goer has ever seen. The Prudential Center by the way is a safe, spic-and-span clean facility with very friendly staff and security. I highly recommend it!

More info to follow....stay tuned, friends.
