A TRIBUTE TO NICOLETTE LARSON - LOTTA LOVE

Released in the USA on 14 Feb 2006, a single disc CD from a 2 night 1998 concert tribute to the late (and great!) Nicolette Larson contains live performances of CSN on "In My Life" and "Southern Cross." There are also a great deal of hits by numerous other artists like Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt to name a few.

Read a review from someone who says he/she was there at
http://www.netsoundsmusic.com/nsudsii/2/208451349/1525/2.html

But buy it for ALOT less (about $15 US) at overstock, cd universe or bn.com. Proceeds go to the Nicolette Larson Pediatric endowment at UCLA Children's Hospital.

HALL AND OATES
Live Show

They still got it!!! I had the joy of attending a recent concert by Hall and Oates and if you ever have the opportunity, do it! They sound great and are not punishingly loud (bring ear plugs any way). We heard many classic songs from their recent "Our Kind of Soul" CD and countless H&O big (radio/MTV/VH1) hits over a good two hours on stage. The atmosphere was almost "coffee-house" in nature; taking maybe a half dozen requests after the opener "Maneater," and gazing at all the signs the crowd had brought to get their favorites played.

This request policy caused more than a few quick guitar changes, but the spot-on band and crew were able to handle it, flawlessly. Soon though, the duo and band launched into a more formal show mode, and the music kept pace; all excellent.

And the encore, or actually both of them, with a total of four songs...was well, sublime is the word. My constant concert companion, was praying for "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," and it was their first encore! Better yet, the minimalist security and the well-behaved audience allowed us to surround the stage (it was standing room only) for the entire four songs. What an (over used word alert...) AWESOME musical experience, being that close to the band at the end of a spectacular show!

There was just one more "awesome" happening...during "Lovin' Feeling," Mr. Oates tossed a guitar pick to the "first lady," and it made her night. Seeing a dear friend enjoy herself so much (thanks John, and everyone else on stage!) made MY decade!

Post Script: Forgive me for almost overlooking, the opening act was singer-songwriter Geoff Byrd (geoffbyrd.com);notably taller than Mr Hall (!!!). He performed a soulful and heartfelt solo set holding his own on acoustic guitar before a crowd who had to be largely unfamiliar with his material. Hall and Oates had the class to invite him to sing one of the encores with them, and he blended in so well that even when Byrd sang lead for a few lines, the group sounded like they had been together forever. Check this guy out!

Bottom Line: Hall and Oates Live 5/5 stars!
