In the USA, ABC broadcast Television will show 2 hours of highlights of the day's events on Saturday 2 July from 8pm-10pm Eastern time. Might be worth saving.

LIVE 8
Broadcast NEWS

As of this writing, final plans for the multi-cast of LIVE 8 are underway. Multiple sources say it will be carried on the MTV networks and XM satellite radio in the USA. This may be the largest seen/heard broadcast in history.

Anyone with an internet connection can reportedly see/hear the concerts on AOL music.
Note: if you do want to use AOL live, you do not need to be a member, but you do need to download their player (which is free). I strongly suggest you do this now, before a few million/billion decide to do it all at once right before the shows. It works reasonably well, by the way even on a dial up connection at the slowest speed.

For AOL player go to aolmusic.com

Live 8 Home Page on AOL is http://music.channel.aol.com/live_8_concert/home

PINK FLOYD's ORIGINAL LINE UP...line up for LIVE 8!!!

Read all about it at
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2005-06-12-pink-floyd_x.htm?POE=LIFISVA

BOTTOM LINE: I think the concerts (especially in London) will be remarkably well attended and performed by a world-class line-up of rock's royalty. HOWEVER...the irony of a bunch of (mainly) multi-zillion-aires singing to "raise awareness" of poverty is not lost on me, nor will it be on you.

This "raising awareness" crap has always been difficult for me to comprehend. It will make alot of people (especially the stars) feel good (especially about themselves). I will be shocked if it makes things measurably better for the majority of those in abject poverty, many who live at the whim of warlords, who don't know where their next drink of water is coming from. I hope those of us in the "first world" already realize how spoiled rotten we are compared to the "average" citizen of this planet, and get down on your knees daily to thank someone/something much larger than you for it. While you are there, pray for those who are not anywhere near being under your roof.

Rock on!

MICHAEL JACKSON NOT GUILTY...

OK, I am forced to comment on this, I think because it's a music (of sorts) story. Well it is NOT about music. It is about the behavior of by any measure a very successful music-maker who was found not guilty on ten counts today of alleged odious behavior. So be it.

All I want to say, dear friends is that I love the music of more than a few "characters" who do/did things I would never advise. I disagree with the politics for example of most American "Rock Stars"...and will never be a member of some far left or ultra right political group. But I do enjoy the music. I pick my friends the same way, we don't always agree on "lifestyle" but we do agree that we respect and care about each other.

BOTTOM LINE: It is my sincere hope Mr. Jackson will get back to business. That is making music that millions will enjoy hearing, and maybe even buying...and perhaps start performing in concert again soon. Just remember M.J., it's not nice to rip-off the fans that feed you. It is the seldom-found act that can command hundreds of dollars (or Euros or Pounds) for concert tickets and not tick off the people that really support your career. Best of Luck, M.J. And I hope there is no sleasy civil suit as a second act to this "reality show." But, look out...there's lawyers everywhere who will sue first and ask questions later!

EAGLES LIVE in 2005 in AUSSIE Territory on TV, and GREAT JUST GREAT!

6-1-05 NBC (broadcast) TV showed 2 hours of well-commercial-laden Eagles Live
Down Under. It was wonderfu. Admittedly I have my suspicions about how much of the performance was "tinkered" ... especially the 5 part harmony of the "Hole In the World" song, just released. But coming from someone who saw the "Hotel California" tour (from the first 2 rows on two different nights) way back in the late 70s, they rocked! They deserved a stadium full of standing ovations, and you missed a great show.

But you didn't miss it, since on the broadcast the show "Farewell Tour I" will be out in the USA at least June 15, 2005. Worth it if under 20 dollars US, espcially if there is more material on the DVD.

PREDICITON: DVD when released will be a HOT concert; let you know if I ever see that version.

OZZY: PRINCE OF DARKNESS 4 CD SET
I promised my take on this set. It has grown on me. Now for my friends from 4waysite.com (Crosby Stills Nash and/or Young), I must say he did a nice take on "For What It's Worth." Hardly the classic simplicty of the original; but it cooks especially the bass line if you listen closely. Vocals are standard Ozzy.

The remainder of the last CD (the only new material of significance) is a mixed bag, including "Mississippi Queen" featurning original (Mountain) guitar man Leslie West...hardly a jump ahead, but like FWIW above, an nice cut. Play that cow bell!

BUMBLES: are few. Your favorite version of a particular song might be missing.

UNFORGIVABLE: "Shot In The Dark," Ozzy's first commercial single that put him on the map as a viable solo artist (after the bad decisions made by Black Sabbath, Incorporated), is NOT in the 4 disc set. It is the ONLY song that truly belongs, no matter what. I would rather have left off, "Crazy Train" since EVERY Ozzy fan has two or more CDs with THAT signature song on it.

SUGGESTION TO OZZY: do another CSN/Y song and a few more tunes and put out a Post-Script single CD (with more than ten songs this time please" of variable tracks, and this time INCLUDE "SHOT IN THE DARK", got it????

BOTTOM LINE: 4.5/5 stars, since I miss a decent recording of "Shot In the Dark" (a remastered studio version, even re-recorded studio version) would have been great. The version from "Live and Loud" is a bit whimpy, in my ears; guess you had to be there (or buy even more Ozzy CDs).
