New CROSBY-NASH double CD price alert
8 August 2004
Both www.circuitcity.com and www.bestbuy. com have the new David Crosby and Graham Nash double CD release (out 10 August) advertized (this week only) for $15.99 (in the North East USA), with "free shipping."
Double check that you qualify for free shipping (in the USA only I suppose).
Go to either web site, click on the upper left hand corner of the home page under "weekly ad," and you will have to give your zip code to get the price in your area.
You can pre-order, or order this week. BUT, wait until your local indie music shop is open and check their price too, and support your local merchant, if you can. That's what I plan to do!
David's band, CPR, did alot of these tunes in concert recently (and I am told Crosby Stills & Nash are doing them on tour now too), and take it from me--they are great. I can't wait to hear the CDs.

AVRIL LAVIGNE ROCKS (shortly) on PRINCESS DIARIES-2
Wait, just wait, OK. I have NO interest in the flick. But there is a cute and hard-rockin' song, "I Always Get What I Want," on this collection. It is short (two and a half minutes, exactly). But it stands alone as the ONLY under-produced tune of the set of 14.
Out today, Princess-D's-2 also contains the lovely version of the otherwise Elvis tune "Love Me Tender," from her Bluenote stint. Survivior-Idol-numero-uno Kelly Clarkson opens the disc with a nice but overly sweet (and layered, and layered) song "Breakaway" which will probably be the hit, if there is on on the soundtrack.
"Dance, Dance, Dance," the erstwhile Beach Boys mini-song (2 minutes, ugh!) is super-sang by Wilson Phillips (who are the offspring of the authors, more or less) and they DO get it right. This is also on the Wilson Phillips recent CALIFORNIA release, which is nice, but also SHORT.
The perhaps obligatory "hit" is Pink's "Trouble" which fits in adequately, but is hardly groundbreaking; it sounds remarkably over-produced (excessive strings, rhythm tracks, oooh's and ahh's and so on), next to the others. Just to get back to (the very lovely and true rocker here) AVRIL...her's is the only song that sounds like maybe Cheap Trick (in their day, which is any-day by the way) could plod it out on stage.
All of the other tunes, seem a bit toooooooo perfect, and that is probably the point, given the title of the movie, get it...
Bottom Line: not outstanding, but for a soundtrack it's a 3.5 Star affair (out of 5)...
Before I go...there are a couple more AVRIL soundtrack tunes
1. "I Don't Give" (5/5 star song) on the AMERICAN WEDDING soundtrack
2. "Falling Down" (another perfect song) on the SWEET HOME ALABAMA soundtrack
Keeping up with AVRIL may be expensive...but worth it!
